Scala has advised on seven successful fundraisings in buyout, infrastructure, credit and secondary strategies during the last 12 months. Yesterday we hosted the largest ever LP-only seminar within the alternative asset class in Finland, with approximately 100 participants. The program consisted of a market presentation by our keynote speaker, CEO Mario Giannini of Hamilton Lane, as well as of a panel with four CIOs from Finland’s largest pension funds.

2018 in review and the year ahead:
We have advised on seven successful fundraising projects in both fronts we have said we want to be active: supporting emerging managers in their first fundraising and helping established managers to widen their group of LPs. The investors in these projects were mainly European but included also four large institutional investors from South Korea, which has become one of our home markets. We expect the demand for the alternative asset class as a substitute to listed equities and fixed income to remain strong. In 2019, we will be offering fundraising services to high-quality managers e.g. within Nordic buyout, European life science, Swedish real estate, European infrastructure and global buyout strategies.
Scala Alternatives Afternoon:
Finnish investors have been the early adopters of the alternative asset class. Many institutions have started their global private equity programs in the 1990s and have been able to see the long-term benefits of the unlisted market. We wanted to create a new LP-only forum and to get the local investor community together to hear and discuss on the trends. Yesterday approximately 100 Finnish investors from large family offices to the biggest pension funds participated the first Scala Alternatives Afternoon. Our keynote speaker CEO Mario Giannini of Hamilton Lane gave their latest view on where the market is heading. This annual market overview is much-awaited event around the world and was now heard for the first time in Finland. In addition, Maarit Säynevirta from VER, Mikko Mursula from Ilmarinen, Reima Rytsölä from Varma and Markus Pauli from KEVA shared their experiences in international private equity investing. All four CIOs from Finland’s largest pension funds shared the continued belief in the performance and growth in private equity asset class and will continue to grow their allocation into the asset class in the future. Given the great feedback, we have already started the planning of the next Alternatives Afternoon seminar. 🙂
